Company History
FAST Group was born some eight decades ago, with one man William L. Chiongbian, and his one dream to own a ship.
William grew up helping his father in the copra trading, where he enjoyed working on board the ships. In his mid-20’s, William chartered an outrigger and hopped the island’s bartering currency, dried fish, sugar and cigarette.
From Trading
to Shipping
From the outrigger, William advanced to operating a "Batil," and after the end of World War II, on December 13, 1945, William L. Chiongbian Shipping was founded with one ship, ultimately expanding to 15 ships over the years.
William Lines (WLI) rose to become the most profitable shipping company in the country in the 1970s. The company went public in 1995 with its third generation core of professional managers. The following year, it merged with Aboitiz Shipping, and Gothong Lines, with WLI as surviving entity holding majority share. This merged company was consequently re-named William, Gothong, and Aboitiz (WG&A).
In 2003, the Group divested from shipping to focus on the growth opportunities in logistics, warehousing, selling distribution, car dealerships, and realty.
Growing into Logistics
and Selling Distribution
In 1976, in a move to serve the shippers of William Lines, the Group incorporated FAST Cargo Transport Corporation (FCTC), which integrated forwarding, trucking, and warehousing. Air parcel delivery express service under FastPak Global Express Corporation became one of the pioneers in the Philippines for courier delivery service, to complete the transport logistics via land, sea, air. Later, the business name of FCTC was changed to FASTCargo Logistics Corporation (FLC).
The Group later spun off warehousing operations to FAST Services Corporation, which was envisioned to focus on the growing needs for storage and warehouse management.
In 2001, the Group entered the selling distribution business under FAST Distribution Corporation, with Nestle as its first principal, awarding its first sales territory in the island provinces of Leyte and Samar. This later grew into more than 20 provinces and cities in the Visayas and Mindanao region.
Due to high demand, FAST Unimerchants Inc (FUI) was later established to serve other principals for selling distribution.
